What changed

The previous checkpoint had Miami at 12-10-4 with 46 points, 64 goals scored and 50 allowed after the Sept. 27 loss at Columbus extended the winless run to five. The 4-0 victory over D.C. United added three points and four goals, pushed the totals to 68 and 50, raised the pace from 1.70 to 1.75 points per match and ended the skid.

Why it matters

Miami is 13-10-5 with 49 points after finally pairing dominance with a shutout in a 4-0 demolition of D.C. United on Oct. 10. Inter Miami CF forwards Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez powered the rout, but 50 goals allowed through 28 matches still hang over the celebration.

What to watch

Watch Miami's transition shape during the first 15 minutes after halftime, its clean-sheet rate over the next month and whether the team settles on one back four.

What would change our mind

Three straight wins while allowing no more than one goal in each would demand a contender rewrite. Another blown lead at home would stamp the leak as Miami's identity.
